Angel Alanis is an American electronic music producer and DJ from Chicago, active since the mid-1990s. His versatile sound spans techno, house, electro, acid, and hard house. He has performed at clubs and festivals across the United States and internationally, with productions released on renowned labels such as Tresor, Tronic, International House Records (IHR), Moody Recordings, Underground Construction, Moonshine, Catalyst Recordings, and Contact Records.

 

Alanis began DJing in Chicago in the late 1980s at the age of 14, honing his craft through house parties and basement events. Influenced by the city’s iconic radio mix shows on WBMX and B96, he developed skills in mixing, scratching, and blending diverse musical styles.In the 1990s, he co-founded Mushgroove Productions with Frankie Vega and DJ Sonic, promoting events throughout Chicago.

 

His first records were released on DJ Hyperactive's Contact label, and he continued partnering with several Midwest independent labels. This momentum led to a collaboration with DJ CZR and International House Records, where he was signed by DJ Bad Boy Bill.

 

During the early 2000s, Dave Clarke featured Alanis’s track "TUBE *Contaminated Records" on his world service CD. Alanis founded A Squared Muzik, distributed by Dust Traxx, and teamed up with Chicago producer Rees Urban as the duo Pair of Jacks, releasing music on Tresor, Moonshine, and Catalyst Recordings. He also collaborated with DJ Colette and C-Pen, gaining exposure through a Motorola ad campaign and the film The Devil Wears Prada. Other notable collaborators include Halo Varga (DJ Halo/Trunkids). His remix work for Subliminal Records earned a Billboard Dance Award for Joey Negro’s hit single "Can’t Get High Without U." Additional collaborations include Hiroko Yamamura, Lady 4square (The Blessed Madonna), Local Hero (Jaq Attaque), Adam Jay, DJ Shiva (Non Compient), Bad Boy Bill, DJ Hyperactive, Christian Smith, Frankie Vega, Gettoblaster, DJ Apaul, and DJ Pierre. Throughout his career, Alanis has navigated many styles while remaining deeply connected to Chicago’s underground dance music scene.

 

Later, Alanis worked closely with DJ Pierre and the Afro Acid label, supporting label management and performing live alongside DJ Pierre and DJ Spank. In 2011, he remixed Phuture’s classic "Acid Trax." Following DJ Spank’s passing, Alanis joined the remaining dates of Phuture’s tour, culminating with a set at the Movement Festival in Torino, Italy.

 

In addition to producing and performing, Alanis has founded several record labels, including D-Form, with Steve Parker, and his current imprint, Slap Jaxx. With nearly three decades in electronic music, Angel Alanis continues to produce, DJ, and collaborate with his wife, producer and DJ Maria Goetz, on original productions and remixes.
